Reclaiming the National Landscape
This is a project I completed during my final year at CU Boulder. Due to a rapidly changing climate, the National Mall’s Tidal Basin is impacted by daily flooding around its perimeter. Rapidly deteriorating sea walls are the landscape’s only defense against sea level rise and extreme weather patterns. Our solution repurposes the underutilized landscape surrounding the Tidal Basin as a natural wetland barrier that allows water to permeate into the land and provides a vegetative barrier against storm surge.
